How You Can Help

Sponsors Urgently Required! The cost of living is now so high and many children do not have sponsors, will YOU help someone who had no hope of a future to have one. Can you help us to help them. It is both rewarding for both the child and the sponsor. There are several ways in which you can get involved and help the children at Covenant yourself - and surprisingly enough they do not all involve you giving money (although we cannot do without this either). A few of the ways you can help are described below:

Letting Others Know About Covenant

At Covenant we ensure that every penny that is given to us goes directly out to the children. Unlike many other organisations, we do not spend money on 'promoting' ourselves to the public. This means that we rely heavily upon our supporters spreading the news about the work at Covenant, and this is one of the major ways in which you can help us. If you feel able, we would be very grateful if you could talk to friends, to people at work and to people at church about us. Or why not ask your local school or church to support us?

By just getting one more sponsor you have done a great amount to help us.

Sponsorship

Child Sponsorship
A second way to help is to sponsor a child, either individually or as a group. It costs us between £30 - £50 per month to look after each child, and we ask for a minimum of £20 from you. Yes, we know it is quite a lot! But you know that every single penny is going to the children.

In return, we will send you a picture and some information about the child that you are sponsoring, and send you a regular Covenant Home Newsletter. If possible, we will also try to match your preference for the age and gender of the child you sponsor. The children love receiving letters and photos from their sponsors - although this is entirely optional!

Educational Sponsorship
Some people, we understand, are more interested in helping specifically with education. You are welcome to sponsor a child through Covenant School or to give generally to Covenant School if you wish.

Fees per term 50GBP per term for Primary and 80GBP for High School.

Of particular concern are the increasing numbers of young people who finish school with good final examination results but who are unable to take up the place at college or university they so richly deserve because of a lack of sponsorship. As a consequence some never realise thier full potential. Any help you may be able to give one of these young people would be invaluable.

Needs

There are several items that we are currently in need of here at Covenant Home - only through your donations can we fulfil these needs and requirements:

  • Funds to buy wood to make desks for school (10GBP buys the wood to make a desk)
  • Funds to buys text books and general school resources.
  • Mini-Bus - 30 seater needed for transport for the school and home as our vehicle only takes 14 and is in need of replacement as it is costing so much to run with constant repairs.

Football Equipment - Our Covenant Home Football teams need urgent monetary support, new footballs and more boots which can be bought second hand for 10GBP a pair. The teams are registered with KYFA (Kenya Youth Football Association) and each player has to be registered at a cost of 3GBP per head and money is needed for transport to various venues for games.

Form Ones are now in class and are looking very smart in their brand new uniforms! All we need now is some nice donations to help us pay the bills!! Focus On Africa from Haverhill in Suffolk painted our hall and kitchen for us. Three uncompleted classrooms now finished and ready for use thanks to SOCKS Canada for 2500GBP spent on Text Books for Primary and High School. Many children are applying to come to our schools but we dont have enough desks or beds for boarders which is a great shame as we need paying students to help us run the school. Donations desperately needed for these things....

  • Bunk Bed for students (50GBP)
  • Mattresses for bunk beds (15GBP)
  • Blankets (5GBP)
  • Pairs of sheets (5GBP)

Online Donations

If you would like to make a donation to the work of Covenant, you can do this by sending a donation to Cliff Meade at the address shown in Contact Us or by doing an online transfer directly to the Trust Account, the details of which can be obtained from Pat.

Volunteering

Whatever your age or skill we love having people to come and stay with us and contribute as volunteers. There are great opportunities for you to help; befriend the children, teach, counsel, run church activities etc. Whatever suits your capabilities! We can often find some room for you to live on site. What we do ask for is a minimum stay of one month, although you are welcome to apply for longer, as we have found from past experience that it takes this long for volunteers to feel that they have accomplished something.

Unfortunately, recent Kenyan Govenment rules mean that volunteers will have to get a work visa which currently costs 100GBP

We will also ask you to come for an interview beforehand, and run a police check. Many volunteers have enjoyed their stay so much that they come out again and again, and bring their friends and families to see what is going on! If you are interested in volunteering, then please do contact us. We will get in touch and help you get the ball rolling!
